The Associated Press is reporting that helmet manufacturer Vega is recalling at least 30,000 of its VTS helmets. This after the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration judged four XL-sized VTS helmets as having failed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. Upon learning of the failures, Vega investigated, finding that a change in the shell shape was at least partially responsible for the helmets no longer being in compliance.
Vega is recalling 30,000 VTS helmets, in sizes L, XL and XXL that were produced between May 2011 and October 2012. Vega is claiming they aren’t sure how many of the helmets produced in that period aren’t compliant with the crash standard, so it looks like they’re recalling the lot. Helmets involved in the recall will be replaced by Vega outright.
