The term “raising awareness” has lost a lot of its meaning here in The States. Raising awareness has become shorthand for twelve flavors of slacktivism for any given cause. But elsewhere in the world, drawing attention to important causes can still make a huge difference. Once such cause is breast cancer, and a group of inspired ladies in Botswana have mounted up on a fleet of pink Vespas LXs and Ss.
From the Vespa Facebook page:
The Journey of Hope Botswana is a group of women, many of whom are themselves Breast Cancer Survivors, embark on a journey of 1000km from Maun to Gaborone upon pink Vespas to spread awareness of Breast Cancer around Botswana. Awareness talks are held in communities along the route as well as teaching and performing breast examinations, spreading the message of hope across the country. In addition to the main ride, various events are held throughout the year to further raise money for the ride and also to assist with treatment and care of Breast Cancer Patients in need of financial aid.
