The first press image of the production version of Vespa’s highly-anticipated 946 Quarantsei has appeared on popular motorcycle blog Hell for Leather.
The 946 concept debuted at EICMA last year, but it wasn’t until Piaggio’s US dealer meeting that rumors of an actual production run began to emerge (as we reported in March). There’s still much we do not know about the model, such as whether it will replace the LX series, as some dealers were told at the meeting, and when it will land in the US. The 946 wasn’t mentioned in any Vespa materials regarding their 2013 lineup and hasn’t been mentioned on their corporate site or press materials since October, 2011.
What we do know is that the 946 will feature the new 3-valve engine that current non-US Vespa LXs sport. The 3V engine boasts performance increases while reducing emissions.
Piaggio will likely release more information on the 946 during EICMA 2012, which begins November 15. ScooterFile will be reporting on all of their announcements, as well of those of other scooter manufacturers, here.
